Do These Yoga Poses To Start Burning Fat And Slimming Down

Yoga is well known for its restorative, relaxing, and strength-building capabilities. Some yoga poses can also be quite effective at burning fat while helping you to tone your body. For many people, losing weight is hardly easy. With the right attitude and understanding some basic yoga poses, you can give your metabolism the kickstart it needs.

While it might seem like yoga would not be the most effective workout for burning fat, given the many stationary poses, that is hardly the case. In fact, yoga can be quite efficient for burning fat and losing weight. The key is to make sure you are practicing it correctly and regularly.

yoga for weight loss

First, it is important to understand that there are many types of yoga and not all forms of yoga are conducive to helping you achieve weight loss on a consistent basis. Some types of yoga are better for helping you to relax and reducing stress levels, but are not really beneficial for giving you a cardio workout, which is essential for burning fat and losing weight.

Consistency is also critical to burning fat with yoga. As is the case with any workout, yoga must be performed with intensity and on a regular basis. Of course, it’s also vital that you maintain a healthy diet with any workout plan.

Types of Yoga

Vinyasa

This form of yoga is excellent for weight loss. Also known as flow yoga, this form of yoga is comprised of a series of Sun Salutations. To maximize the benefit of this form of yoga, you should move through the poses quickly, which gives you the benefit of an increased heart rate.

The best benefit of Vinyasa yoga is that since it has become so popular, it’s relatively easy to find a DVD in various skill levels, allowing you to work out in the privacy and convenience of your own home, without the need to visit a yoga studio.

Bikram

Also known as hot yoga, Bikram is similar in nature to Vinyasa, in that it will take you through several poses. Rather than working out in a cool room or studio; however, you work out in a heated studio.

Temperatures in a Bikram studio usually reach up to 150 degrees. While moving through the various Bikram poses, you will eliminate toxins while burning fat and calories. Keep in mind that this form of yoga can be quite vigorous, so if you have certain medical conditions, it may not be the right choice for you.

Power Yoga

Power yoga combines a cardio workout with traditional yoga poses. As a result, you are able to move through the various poses faster. Along with strengthening your muscles, power yoga also helps to increase muscle mass and increase your resting metabolic rate, giving you greater potential for weight loss.

Below, we explore several yoga poses that will help you to do just that. Now keep in mind if you’re new to Yoga then some of these could be a little tough. And in this case I recommend a good home yoga course with a credible instructor that can progress you from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Here is one my team recommends.

The Cobra Pose

This poses is an excellent starting point for beginners. Along with toning the abs, the Cobra poses will also help to firm the buttocks. Begin by lying face-down on the floor. The tops of your feet should be placed flat against the floor. Next, press your hips and legs down. Position your hands under your shoulders with your palms downward and your fingers spread apart.

Lift your head and press into your hands while lifting your upper back and chest from the floor. Ensure your gaze remains forward. Push your shoulders back. You should feel the stretch along the length of your spine. Hold this position for several deep breaths and then return to the start position as you exhale.

The Bow Pose

This pose is a bit more advanced, but is excellent for burning fat while toning the legs, arms, and abs. Begin by lying down on your stomach. Next, bend your knees and reach around your knees to clasp your feet.

Pull your stomach in as you extend your feet in an upward position while raising your upper body. Make certain you keep your shoulder blades back and down. Hold this position for several breaths and then relax.

Wind-Relieving Pose

When you want to target your abdominal area, this pose is an excellent choice. Begin by lying down on the floor. Next, bring your knees toward your chest while keeping your ankles together. Clasp your arms together so they are over your knees while lifting your head from the floor. You should feel the stretch in your abdominal area as you breathe deep. Relax slowly.

Side-Stretch Pose

This pose is great for burning calories and increasing your heart rate. Begin by standing with your feet a bit more than hips width apart. Rotate your torso and position both feet to the right. Exhale while keeping your legs straight.

Bend over your right leg until your torso is in a position parallel to the floor. Stretch your hands to the floor. Move your torso closer to your right side. Continue breathing, then relax. Repeat in the opposite direction.

The Warrior Pose

This particular yoga pose helps to work your arms, thighs, and abs. Begin by standing straight. Move your left leg so that it is about four feet from your left foot. Now, rotate both of your feet and your torso to the left.

Next, bend your left knee so it is over your toes. Remember to keep your right leg straight. Now, raise both arms overhead, pointing your fingertips upward.

Plank Pose

This is one of the most effective yoga poses for burning fat because it involves the entire body. Begin by balancing on your hands and toes, ensuring your body is in a straight line. Your hands should be positioned under your shoulders and your feet should be hips-width apart.

To perform a side plank with a leg lift, balance on your right hand with the outside edge of your right foot with your body in a straight line. Raise your left leg and left arm in the air.

When performed correctly and consistently on a regular basis, yoga can be an incredibly effective way to relieve stress, clear your mind, and burn fat.

In the end Yoga offers a great number of benefits and can be a great addition to anyone’s health and fitness routine. Yoga isn’t typical thought of as a fat burning workout, but it can be with the right teacher and techniques.

As I mentioned above we recommend Yoga Burn, a fat burning Yoga program that can be done from home. However, there are a number of courses available online to help you if you’re interested in Yoga. Just take the time to do some research and then make an informed decision.
