3 Healthy Benefits of Green Tea

Within the last 10 years, the amazing health and weight loss benefits of Green Tea have really come to the surface. Green tea seems to provides benefits within a number of different areas and while some people can’t stand the taste it really should be included within your daily diet.

So let’s take a look at 3 benefits Green tea provides for your health.

1. Weight Loss

Out of the many benefits of Green Tea weight loss seems to be the most people know it for. It’s been said that Green tea has the ability to boost metabolism which then leads to increased fat-burning within the body.

A lot of different studies have been done on the tea and most believe that something called catechins is the cause behind the increase in fat-burning. Catechins have been found to elevate norepinephrine levels which promote a process within the body called thermogenesis.

Researchers found that when obese mice were fed a compound found in green tea along with a high-fat diet, they gained weight significantly more slowly (45 percent!) than mice who weren’t fed green tea – Shape

Benefits of Green Tea

One of my favorite studies which lasted 3 months showed that individuals who were involved with the study showed a pretty significant reduction in body fat. Of course, the participants were all drinking green tea during the 3 month period. In another study, it was shown that when Green tea was combined with caffeine the results were even better. This makes a lot of sense since caffeine has also been shown to increase metabolism.

Many athletes are told to drink Green tea before their workouts as well because it helps to stimulate blood cells which allows for a better workout and better recovery time after the workout has been completed. So as you can see Green tea has a lot of benefits in terms of weight loss.

One important thing to note is that research has suggested that Green tea combined with artificial sweeteners has been known to decrease the effect of green tea. I bring this up because a lot of people tend to sweeten their green tea with artificial sweeteners due to the bitter taste Green tea tends to have.

I recommend learning to drink it without adding any other substances to it so you get the full effect. It may take a while, but you will adapt to the taste quickly. In many ways, it’s like learning to drink coffee black. It can be done.

2. Diabetes

My mom and dad both have Diabetes as well as thousands of other people all across the world. Green tea has been known to stabilize blood sugar levels when drunk over periods of time.

In recent studies, it has been shown that drinking green tea can even help prevent type diabetes from occurring and slow its progression. Type 2 diabetes has been shown to be affected by Green tea as well. It has been shown in other studies to improve sensitivity to insulin and reduce blood sugar levels.

I recommend you ALWAYS check with your doctor about this matter first and one should never stop their current treatment or medicine without talking with their doctor first.

3. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

I suffer from this condition myself and it’s no fun and I can, from personal experience state that Green tea has helped a great deal in this area for me. In studies, it has been shown that green tea helps reduce inflammation.

This is critical because inflammation plays a huge role in Chron’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In case you were wondering I have Chrons. Another reason green tea helps is due to the EGCG which is found within it.

One large-scale clinical study compared green tea drinkers with non-drinkers and found that those who drank the most tea were less likely to develop pancreatic cancer, particularly women, who were 50% less likely to develop the disease. – Medical News Today

So as you can see Green tea really does have a lot of benefits. This is a quick overview and I’m sure if you did a little research you’ll see that this amazing drink offers a lot more than listed here.

Obviously, you shouldn’t drink tons of Green tea a day because anything in excess isn’t good for you. Although a cup or two a day can have a lot of benefits in both the weight loss department and just feeling better in general.
